The eight minute track titled ‘Weightless’ was labeled as the “most relaxing song ever”. It was a product of a collaboration between the band Marconi Union and the British Academy of Sound Therapy commissioned by Radox.
Listening to the track was said to ease anxiety, slow down breathing and reduce brain activity to some extent, it is not advisable to listen to it whilst driving. It works by using a particular blend of tones, rhythms, frequencies and harmonic intervals to put a listener to a trance-like state. The continuous 60 BPM tempo takes a listener to a process called ‘entrainment’, wherein the brainwaves and heartbeat were synchronized to the music’s rhythm. On one hand, the systematized gaps between notes plus the random chimes and the high to low tones bring the feeling of euphoria and a sense of deep relaxation to a person.
According to Dr. David Lewis, one of UK’s leading stress specialists, ‘Weightless’ brought the greatest relaxation – a level higher than any music they have tested. He also said that the music does not only stimulate regions of the brain that process sound but also the portions associated with emotions.
Here’s the list of the top 10 most relaxing tunes according to their studies:

Different people may have different results and reactions upon listening to the music. I believe it depends on a person’s preference. Like for me, I find myself relaxed to RNB and to Tessellate by Ellie Goulding type of songs. (Yup, I love that. :)) To tell you honestly, the tune was relaxing, but it’s a bit overrated to say that it’s the most relaxing ever. Well, I’m just giving my ignorant opinion.
How about you? Do you agree that ‘Weightless’ is the most relaxing tune ever? What songs help you relax? Feel free to post your thoughts below the comments section.
