There is this certain euphoria whenever I see something that reminds me of my childhood. It’s just great to see characters from video games, cartoons or comics relived and reimagined to suit today’s sense of fun and action. I remember playing Super Mario on my Gameboy; though the actions are merely going back and forth, jumping and doing other utterly basic functions, I can’t deny the fact that I had fun playing it. However, today, I think I won’t enjoy it as much as I did before, but seeing a muscular Super Mario wielding a big gun on an illustration by Coran Stone brings it all back to me.
Just the thought of Mario & Luigi, Shaggy of Scooby-Doo and all these other characters I grew up with having epic battles and action packed fight scenes brings out the 90’s geek in me. If you’re with me on this, let’s imagine with Coran’s great playful mind.

If you didn’t enjoy the images above, it’s either you were not born in the 90’s or you’re plain boring. I don’t know about you but to me, every image somewhat creates an exciting scene as if it was part of an anime’.
I can say that awesome imagination and good drawing skills worked well for the compositions. Coran’s childish style of drawing, the soft palate colors he used and the cool facial expressions were a good blend to these astounding illustrations. That being said, I would really love to see these in an animation. Who wouldn’t?
